Empowering Athletes' Comeback: Maximizing Performance with Objective Data

For athletes, returning to sport after an injury is a critical milestone, but it's not just about regaining strength alone. The ability to overcome poor loading and develop movement strategies plays a crucial role in preventing re-injury and ensuring a safe and successful comeback. In this context, the incorporation of objective data (link above blog) becomes paramount. Recognizing the need for accurate insights, Motusi is leading the way by providing athletes and their physical therapists with innovative solutions that go beyond strength assessment, allowing them to monitor and address load deficits with precision. Motusi achieves this all without the need for a biomechanics lab through our wearable technology.

Motusi understands that returning to sport requires a comprehensive approach that considers not only an athlete's physical strength but also their ability to handle specific loads. By leveraging objective data, Motusi's solutions offer a holistic view of an athlete's performance, taking into account factors such as movement patterns, muscle activation, and load distribution. This objective data empowers trainers and athletes to identify and address load deficits, enabling tailored training programs and minimizing the risk of re-injury. With Motusi's emphasis on objective data, athletes can confidently navigate their journey back to sport, ensuring they are ready to meet the demands of their chosen discipline while minimizing the risk of setbacks.

Paradigm shift: Focus on New Patient appointments, less on follow-ups, and reap the rewards

Are you tired of seeing long waiting times for patients in your outpatient PT clinic? The industry is facing a labor shortage, but adopting the right technology can help solve the problem while also boosting profitability and patient satisfaction. Read on to learn how to integrate technology into your clinical workflow for more efficient and effective patient care.

The outpatient PT industry is facing a massive labor shortage while demand for our services continues to build, leading to several weeks-long waiting times for patients to be seen in our clinics. Our research supports the importance of intervention within 10-14 days of symptom onset and yet we struggle to make it a reality for our patients. It is time for us as an industry to shift our focus and get these patients into our clinics faster. How do we do this is the next logical question?… Answer: We stop clogging up our schedules for weeks on end with low-value and unneeded follow-up appointments. Of course, follow-up’s are needed, but let’s be honest, most of our patients do not need 2-3 visits per week for multiple weeks. Let’s be better! and make more money doing it, because we deserve it.

The only way we can do this is to leverage technology. Technology can measure the things that we are not able to see even with our trained eyes. It is more efficient and has no bias. Adopting the right technology into your clinical workflow, allows you to spend more time on interventions, educating patients, and developing bomb-proof treatment plans. It gets us back to the things we love about what we do and consistently working at the top of our license.

Not only will it not tank your profitability, but it may also be the best marketing, recruiting, and innovation tool available to you. Patients save time and get great care, and their satisfaction is huge. Now they tell their friends, and soon, the gold standard of marketing—word-of-mouth—is working for you and your clinic.

CES 2023 did not disappoint

Here at Motusi, we have had a very busy and exciting Q1. We finally got the chance to catch up with Marc Alexander, our founder and CEO, and hear his thoughts about attending CES this year and the direction it has set for the team for the year.

Q: Marc, from everything you were able to take in at the conference this year, what would you summarize were the main trends of CES this year?

Hands down, CES may be one of the most inspiring conferences we attend all year. I would sum up the trends from the conference this year as saying the near future is all about data AI and smart systems. Smarter data gathering, smarter applications, smarter learning—all in service to allow the end user to be the master of their data and their data destiny.

Q: Can you paint a picture for us of what the Motusi presentation was like and share some of the highlights?

We were the sole presenter on Friday at the Bosch Senortec booth in the Health and Wellness exhibit hall, presenting live demos of the Motusi technology with our co-founder, Jon Eng wearing the Motusi kit. We projected the Motusi app showing a real-time 3D avatar of Jon’s movements with advanced analytics overlayed on the screen. We attracted a large crowd throughout the day with an audience comprised mainly of the healthcare industry, sports tech, and academia. Each group had vastly different questions for us, from the New York Yankees to leaders from UC Irvine Health, with everyone looking for the next innovation to help further their own research and business goals. The energy was inspiring.

Q: What was the most important feedback you got from CES this year?

Our takeaway from the conference was that we are designing and innovating something that is very unique. Yes, we are designing AI into our product, but by measuring loads and force through a wearable, and washable form factor, our product stands alone. Our visualization technology and easy-to-understand assessment provide a user experience not seen elsewhere. This leaves us feeling confident about the space we are designing in and the technology we have to offer, and we feel well positioned to support the end user as they take control of their data destiny.

Can One Conference Leave You Awestruck?

This January, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) will hold its annual Consumer Electronic Showcase (CES) conference in Las Vegas. This is the tech event of the year for innovators, investors, and technology gurus to attend around the world. It’s where you will find breakthrough technologies and get a chance to speak with the innovators who created them. This is an invitation-only conference, and we have been invited to attend to showcase the Motusi technology at the Bosch Sensortec booth!

Marc Alexander and Jon Eng will be on hand to demo the Motusi technology and connect with investors, technologists, and other like-minded innovators. This event is not only an ideal place for us to showcase the Motusi technology, but it is also absolutely inspiring. Our experience last year left us awestruck. Walking the exhibit halls and getting a chance to talk with innovators and companies, both inside the digital health sphere, and far outside our line of business, left us with new ideas, and new ways to consider our work, and excited to be part of the energy at the conference. Everyone there is full of optimism and deeply believes in what they are doing. It would be hard not to be inspired.

Going to this year's Showcase, we are anticipating more of the same energy and attendees, but we will be bringing a little more strategy on our side. We now know what to expect and are a little smarter about how to make the most of this opportunity and connect with attendees in a more meaningful way. What I don't expect to change is that same feeling of awe from being surrounded by people who are truly trying to make a difference through technology and how it may change the world.

Augmented Reality for an Immersive Digital Health Experience

Motusi provides an immersive experience by leveraging Augmented Reality that empowers athletes to own their movement health, recover faster, play more, and hit their peak performance.

We believe everyone is an athlete in their own way, whether you’re an industrial athlete with the goal of preventing a work-related injury, a competitive athlete looking to maximize your performance, or an everyday athlete with the aim of moving healthily and care-free. As athletes work toward their health goals, it’s important that they have tools that give them knowledge and confidence. The Motusi platform is designed to provide movement data and advanced insights so that any kind of athlete can measure what matters and better understand their progress in their movement health journey.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that extends the user’s reality using digital information. Motusi does this by representing an athlete’s movement through a 3D digital form - or digital twin. By wearing Motusi’s engineered athleticwear, an athlete can capture their movement data and stream it to the Motusi App, where it is rendered real-time in 3D. The athlete and their movement professional can overlay advanced insights that help assess injury, recovery, and performance.

Motusi’s digital twin helps athletes see and visualize what they’re feeling as they move. We want athletes to see their movement, efficiently communicate with their movement professionals, learn and understand exactly what’s going on. When athletes and patients have access to this data and receive it in a way that is easy for them to understand, they have more control and ownership over their movement health.

Having a digital space that captures real-world movement makes it easier and more accessible for athletes to engage with their professionals. Assessments can be done remotely from any environment, any context, at any time without the limitations of a static lab or over-booked clinic. Professionals can optimize their attention to each athlete - observing key indicators for injury risk, performance regression, or pain from afar. Care is expanded beyond the clinic so that athletes can maximize their time and have confidence that they’re not missing a beat in the progress towards their goals.
